Leawo iOS Data Recovery gives iOS users a quick, easy option for recovering precious data.
Most iOS users have experienced that moment when they are unable to save anything to their device. I know I’ve experienced this at the most inopportune moments. For example, I will be at a friend’s child’s birthday party and want to shoot video with my phone. Unfortunately, my iPhone ends up have little or no storage space left. In a panicked moment, I will begin deleting things that I don’t think I need because this special moment is much more important. When I get home, I realize that I inadvertently deleted photographs or video that were also important milestones. I’ve always thought that file was just gone. That’s what software like Leawo iOS Data Recovery for Mac is for.
iOS Data Recovery is just what it sounds like – an app for Mac that allows users to recover deleted files from iOS devices and their stored backups. The software allows users to recover data from Camera Roll, Photo Stream, Photo Library, Contacts, Messages (MMS, SMS, iMessage), Message Attachments, Voice Memos, Call History, Calendar, Notes, Reminders and Safari Bookmarks.
Using Leawo’s iOS Data Recovery is fairly easy. Once you start up the program, you are met with a screen that asks you to choose whether you want to recover directly from your device or from a backup. I used a backup when I was testing.
Once you select your preferred recovery option, iOS Data Recovery scans the file. It shows you how many pieces of data it finds under the file category (i.e. camera roll, messages, etc.) and gives you the option to select all or none of them. Once the scan is complete, you can look through all the data recovered before restoring it to your computer. I chose to recover the Notes from my iPhone backup. When I clicked on “Notes” all of the notes in that files were checked. I could have gone through and selected only the notes I wanted, but I decided to recover the entire Notes file. The process for this was very quick. I would assume that with more information it takes longer to recover, but this file was very, very quick to restore.
The complaint I have is that with the Notes, I was given an HTML file as the recovery file. I didn’t expect that I would get a file that had the same interface as the Notes app on the iPhone, but I thought it might at least be a text file. The HTML file ended up looking like a table, but the information was repeated over and over again.
The recovery was stored into a neatly organized folder in the location of my choosing. It was automatically labeled “Leawo iOS Data Recovery” with subfolder pre-labeled according to where the data was pulled from. I did several recoveries from the same back-up file and iOS Data Recovery placed each data pull into individual folders labeled by date, time and where it recovered from. This was definitely a bonus for me because it was automatic file management.
iOS Data Recovery works with multiple iOS devices such as:
- iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, 3GS
- iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad
- iPad Mini, iPad with Retina Display
- iPod Touch 5, iPod Touch 4
One of the greatest features of Leawo iOS Data Recovery is that it does not sync with your device – it only detects information. This prevents data loss by recovering it within seconds of detecting it. This is a great feature to me because if I’m in a position where I might lose data, I like the reassurance that this software doesn’t sync therefore possibly overwrite information I’m trying to save.
Having a piece of software like iOS Data Recovery is nice for the ‘emergency’ situation, but not something that is used every day unless your business is data recovery. iOS Data Recovery for Mac is currently on version 1.1.0 and is scheduled to receive an update soon – according to Leawo personnel.
Despite some issues I had with the software right after I downloaded it, Leawo iOS Data Recovery has been a fairly stable piece of software. It retails for $59.99, which is comparable to other data recovery apps available in the App Store. Leawo iOS Data Recovery can currently only be downloaded from the developer at http://www.leawo.org/ios-data-recovery-mac. There is a Free Trial available, which I would recommend using before buying since it’s available.
