Labels & Addresses is a great tool for creating mailing labels and greeting cards.
A big part of my job includes managing direct mail to our guests. We typically send out mailings to approximately 1,000 people a month. We usually work through a mail house and distribute a list to them made from Excel. There are smaller mailings that we will do in-house that require making mailing labels or printing directly onto envelopes. Needless to say, I’ve become very accustomed to using “Mail Merge” within Microsoft Word. I’ve consistently had problems with alignment and printing through Word and have searched for a ‘better’ way to create labels and envelopes for mailings. Labels & Addresses for Mac is the answer.
Labels & Addresses by Belight Software provides a home and office tool for designing and printing address labels, envelopes and cards. It works directly with Contacts and even allows import from Numbers, Entourage, Excel, Filemaker, vCards and tab-delimited text files. Some of the top features of Labels & Addresses include:
- Speeding up mass mailings
- Designing greeting cards for all occasions
- Producing price tags with barcodes
- Creating packaging labels
- Printing various labels for home and office uses
After just using Labels & Addresses for a short time, I can say that I’ve experienced a much easier work flow than I did with Microsoft Word. Because it’s seamlessly integrated with contact information already stored on your computer, creation of mailing lists is far easier than using a system like Microsoft Word. With Word you have to have a pre formatted list through a program like Excel in order to complete a mail merge, but with Labels & Addresses, you can build your own mail merge from within the program by simply adding names from your imported contacts.
One of the best features of Labels & Addresses is the barcode generator. The program will automatically generate postal barcodes based off of the address information. Plus, Labels & Addresses supports industry-standard barcodes. You can create labels for products and include barcodes to simplify inventory. Labels & Addresses supports Code 39, Code 128, EAN-8/13, UPC-A/E, ISBN and Data Matrix barcodes. Data for this purpose can be easily imported through a text file.
Another one of my favorite features is that Labels & Addresses comes preloaded with hundreds of label paper layouts and envelopes from Avery, APLI, A-One, Siegel and others. This was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect to find the labels I used the most already loaded into the program. And even though it comes with layouts, you can still create custom layouts, too.
Aside from the obvious ease of use compared to using a program like Word to create your mailing labels, Labels & Addresses also comes preloaded with many design templates. There are over 1,000 clipart images and various design tools that make it very easy to make customized labels or greeting cards from within the program.
I can highly recommend Labels & Addresses to anyone who deals with mailings on a regular basis. From the business perspective, it saves time and money when creating mailings and from a personal perspective, you have access to creative designs tools without the use of a secondary program. Labels & Addresses retails for $49.99 and can be found in the Mac App Store.
