Tamrac Jazz 83 a versatile, stylish camera bag.
A couple of months ago, I started looking for a new camera bag. I was becoming more active with photography as a hobby and wanted something that would travel well and keep the camera safe. With this in mind, I started looking at backpacks. There are many camera bag-backpacks in the market, but one caught my eye – the Jazz 83 by Tamrac.
The Jazz 83 by Tamrac is a versatile, stylish camera bag that is comfortable to wear and easy to transport from place to place. It holds a camera plus 3-4 lenses and a flash comfortably. The main compartment is fully padded with thick closed-cell foam. There are foam inserts that attach to the walls via velcro for a custom fit for a user’s specific equipment. In addition to the main foam-lined compartment, there is also an exterior pocket that has a foam lined pouch for an iPad plus additional pockets for accessories.
I personally outfitted my Jazz 83 for my DSLR – Canon EOS – its charger and my iPad. I’ve been very impressed with its performance and protection of my equipment. I’m also impressed with the backpack harness. It’s foam-padded and contoured to ensure maximum comfort for the user. There is also an adjustable sternum strap for added security.
The Jazz 83 is also MAS (Modular Accessory System) and SAS (Strap Accessory System) compatible. Tamrac has additional accessory attachments available like extra lens cases, flash pockets, filter packs and even padded water bottle carriers. These items can be attached to the exterior of the case on either side or the straps. While I’ve not had the pleasure of testing these add-ons, I could see them being very useful.
The best test I’ve had of the Jazz 83 is this past week. In our area, we experienced what meteorologists call a “Winter Weather Event.” We had sleet/freezing rain followed by 5-7 inches of snow fall within a 24-hour period. Because our area doesn’t always experience winter weather like this, I decided to take advantage of it and take my camera kit with me. I took landscape pictures of where I work (a horse track) and ventured out to get some environment shots around our home. The Jazz 83 was secure on my back and I never felt that my equipment was in danger.
One of my favorite things about this bag is that it stands up on its own. It’s very frustrating to me to have a bag fall over due to weight distribution being off. I’ve packed this bag several different ways and not had a problem with it toppling over.
The Tamrac 83 is a great addition to any photographer’s arsenal of equipment. It keeps your equipment safe and is also quite stylish. I recommend it for any photographer whether it be for personal or professional use.
The Tamrac 83 or any of its accessories would make a great holiday gift. It retails for $59.95 through amazon.com.
