Quality drop Protection meets microbial defense.
I know many adults who suffer from decision fatigue. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is the phenomenon whereby adults become overwhelmed with the number of decisions that they must make each day. Sometimes, adulting is not as glamorous as we imagined it would be. From the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed, some of us are continuously navigating decision trees, algorithms, pros and cons, and it can become exhausting. With only a few phone brands on the market, one need only really choose between Apple and Android. The next decision, a much more involved one, is to decide which of the case companies you want to rely upon. Luckily, picking an ITSKIN case can be a no-brainer.
The ITSKINS Supreme Frost case arrived in a classy 7 1/8 inches tall by 4 1/4 inches wide by 3/4 inches wide hanging-type package. Turning to the cover, my gaze was immediately drawn to the yellow “Fits iPhone 12 Max/12 Pro 6.1” along the bottom of the panel. It is important to note that there are four sizes of iPhone 12 to choose amongst: 5.4” iPhone 12 Mini, 6.1” iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, and the 6.7” iPhone 12 Pro Max. The product listed 12Max/12Pro (6.1”), which I believe was a typographical error as the Max iPhone 12 had a 6.7” screen. Regardless, the case will fit both of the 6.1” screen devices. You will find the product name “Supreme/Frost” adjacent to the yellow rectangle. Along the top of the panel, you will find the ITSKINS name/logo and a 4.5M Extreme Impact/15 FEET drop-resistant logo. The panel’s main focus was the 4 5/8 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide image of the ITSKINS case along the middle. The slightly raised, glossy-image was accented by three grey-colored icons along the side and a red-black shield along the bottom edge: Air pocket technology, Rugged Frosted Finish, Oversized raised corners, and antimicrobial defense.
I loved the yellow color choice used to represent the case’s size (more on colors below). Similar to the yellow accents on the cover, both side panels used the same bright look-at-me yellow design. The magnetic flap panel had a notch to open the panel and detailed their 100% recycled fiber design. The opposing panel, the spine, displayed the same 4.5M/15Feet drop impact rating as the cover. The ITSKINS name and “BUILT TO OUTPERFORM” were listed directly beneath the drop rating section, and the grey Black color scheme was identified along the bottom. The back cover proved to be markedly more involved than the other panels. I found that I could divide the rear panel into three subsections. The upper third of the case was dedicated to a vibrant picture of a drilling worker performing his duties. Daring, risky, and full of excitement, the picture label truly matched the image: “If it can protect his phone, IT WILL PROTECT YOURS.” The middle section provided the product name within the negative frame of the image. Beneath the product name, you will find two paragraphs detailing the cases’ durable nature, 11 supreme colors, and the four-layer protection (air mattress, front grippy material, DuPont ultra-absorbent polymer, and ITSKINS HE Pro technology). The bottom third of the panel provided a useful feature table: 4.5x Military Standard 810G, 19 Patents, 876 Days of Research, 6000 Drop Tests, 4.5Meter/15Feet Lab Drop Certified. Lastly, you will find product labels, an SKU barcode, a QR code, the www.ITSKINS.COM website, and recycling information.
I slid my finger into the “OPEN TO DISCOVER OUR TECHNOLOGIES” section of the flap and lifted the magnetic flap. With the case opened like a book, I found the 1.3-ounce frosted-grey case toward my right and an attractive internal cover-panel. I lifted the cardboard belt from the 3 1/16 inches wide by 6 inches tall by 1/2 inches thick case and then the case from the cardboard pedestal. The case’s back had a 1 1/8 inches wide by 1 1/4 inches tall camera cutout (with raised bezel) and a subdued ITSKINS logo along the bottom. You will find a 7/16 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall volume toggle cutout and dual 3/8 inches wide by 1/16 inches tall volume buttons along the right of the case. Along the left of the case, you will find a 9/16 inches long by 1/16 inches tall power button within a much larger 3/4 inches long by 3/16 inches tall cutout section. Along the very bottom of the case, you will find dual 1/2 inches wide by 1/8 inches tall speaker cutouts flanking a 9/16 inches wide by 1/4 inches tall lightning cutout. To install the iPhone 6.1, I aligned the volume toggle with the volume toggle cutout. I pressed along the iPhone’s top edge, then the power-button edge, and then the bottom of the iPhone.
The case attached with a resounding clunk, and I was pleased with the design. The camera’s cutouts, the volume toggle, the speakers, and the lightning port were well placed and easily accessible. The case jutted roughly 1/16” above the iPhone screen and provided an additional protection level to the phone screen. I felt that the cutouts and the bezels (screen/camera) were well crafted. The oval lightning cutout was an exceptional choice for the case, as it accommodated every cable that I tested. Further complementing the quality design, I enjoyed the responsive click-button feel of the volume up/down and power buttons. Interestingly, the company chose to flatten each of the corners. Looking to the inner flap, the protection mechanism dictated the design. Instead of a rounded, molded-edge, the Impact Absorption HEXTEK Pro 4LAYERABSORB design provided a DuPont gel bumper and a small signature air pocket to enhance drop protection. Instead of an oval shape, the corner design created an octagonal shape to increase surface area. To test this feature, I dropped the phone onto each corner from a height of two feet onto my hardwood floor. I was pleased to find no damage to the phone and no scuffing on the case.
Beyond drop protection, ITSKIN provided an extra layer of antimicrobial protection. The side layer/backing was made with an IMPACTHANE protected surface coating, designed to kill 60% of microbes in 5 minutes and 99.99% in 2 hours. Furthermore, the ion anti-microbial nanoparticles were touted to disrupt protein, cell membranes, and DNA of bacteria, yeast, algae, and many viruses. Even though they did not mention COVID specifically, in the time of COVID-19, any little bit of protection helps. I found the material created a rather pleasing grippy surface. Coupled with the features above, the Supreme Frost Case was another example of the quality ITSKINS experience.
