How long did you wait in line for your iPhone 6?
Last night, we headed out to stand in line at our local Verizon Wireless store to pickup two of Apple’s new iPhone 6 models. We arrived first (around 6PM Central Time) and before we knew it, the line started to fill in behind us. For quite some time, there were only nine of us in line. As the night progressed, we all formed a bond. This is something you won’t find with Android users. As we all sat and shared stories, we talked about why we decided to wait in line. One gentleman wanted to mark it off his bucket list. He and his young son thought it might be fun to camp out. It was actually a last minute decision the two made. After talking it over with his wife, he and his son packed up the truck and got on the road to wait in line at Verizon overnight for the iPhone 6. Someone else stated that his boss’s wife is disabled and while he wanted the newest iPhone, he didn’t have the money for it. But, his boss paid him to pick one up for his wife. The stories came and went. We all talked about what we wanted to see in the new iPhones and what models everyone was looking to get. One guy wanted three iPhone 6 Plus models the one wanted a Space Gray 128 extremely bad. Robyn wanted the Space Gray iPhone 6 and Brian, well he wanted the same iPhone I got, which was the iPhone 6 Plus Gold 64 gig.
In the morning, Verizon workers explained that cash would not be accepted when ordering an iPhone. Apple’s policy stated that they wanted all sales to be done with a credit card. This was a complete shock and a deal breaker for us as we only brought cash with us. Thanks to the bond we formed with other people in line overnight, one of the guys overheard us talking with the rep and told us if we had the cash he would use his credit card so we could still get our iPhones. This was absolutely amazing to me. Someone in line behind us who would have been moved up to 5th in line if Robyn, Brian and myself would have had to leave, offered to allow us to use his credit card to place our order.
When you see the Samsung mobile product TV spots they forget to mention that Apple fans are a community. Like the ecosystem Apple creates, we find that the products also bring people together. We would never have met those people if it would not have been for standing in line for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Creating new friends, even if just for that night is an experience I would never want to live without.
