I really love MagSafe as a feature on iPhones. It really does make charging wirelessly easier. I like having this as an option, especially in my car because it eliminates the need for a cable strung across the inside of my car and it gives my phone a place to rest while I’m commuting. For a while now, I’ve been using a MagSafe mount in my car that isn’t also a charger. Last week, I swapped that out for the Velox Magnetic Wireless Air Vent Mount from iOttie.

The Air Vent Mount is a fast-charging mount that is designed specifically for MagSafe compatible iPhones. The mount helps to keep your device fully accessible at an ideal viewing angle while you drive and charges while you’re on the go. It is designed to work with MagSafe compatible iPhones and cases.
The Velox Magnetic Wireless Air Vent Mount is made with an aluminum casing for optimal heat dissipation. It also has an additional magnet placed at the base of the charger for quick alignment of the MagSafe area. The charger provides up to 7.5W of power for fast charging your iPhone. The siliconized prongs of the mount ensure easy installation and secure connection. The mount has a strong ball joint that allows the Velox Air Vent mount to rotate from landscape to portrait mode with a gentle twist. The mount retails for $54.95 at the time of publishing this article.
USER EXPERIENCE
The Air Vent Mount comes in a branded retail package and it’s pre-assembled. Aside from plugging in the car charger, there is no other assembly required. Installation into the car is also quite simple. The clamp is silicone-covered and is a fork-style mount. The teeth of the mount simply slide in around the plastic vent slats. The mount seems to be secure and fits tightly on the vent. I will say that over time and depending on how much you move the ball mount around, it will stay put. After a week of solid use – including moving the ball joint around – I will say that the mount did pop off the vent once during that time.
As far as the mount feature goes, the magnet holds the phone securely in place. As I said, I’ve been driving with this mount in my car for about a week and have traveled around town. After driving over various paved terrains, I can say, that the mount does a good job of holding the phone in place. It’s actually done a great job of holding the phone whether it is in portrait or landscape mode.
The vent mount is also a great charger. When I connected my phone, it immediately started charging. It gained battery power within just a few minutes of being connected and I never noticed the charging of the phone stop (unless it was disconnected or fully charged). I have seen that with other wireless/MagSafe chargers. If the phone isn’t connected just right, the charging process can be interrupted. Fortunately, I didn’t see that happen with the Velox Magnetic Air Vent Mount.
CONCLUSION
I think this vent mount is a very nice option for wireless charging inside your vehicle. The price is a little higher than some other MagSafe vent mount chargers I’ve seen, but it’s only about 10% higher than its competitors. The mount and charger work very well and the premium quality of the product is really a nice complement to the iPhone.
