Premium dock with many convenient features.
I really enjoy products that not only provide a service, but also serve dual purposes. I don’t have a lot of desk space and minimizing clutter is important to me. So I really love it when a product can have multiple uses. One such product is the IONA Charging Dock from LandingZone.
IONA is a premium charging dock for the iPhone and iPad. It was designed by LandingZone, a company that prides itself on making unique docking solution for Apple products. The dock is made from Aluminum and plastic. The finish is the same brushed aluminum look that Apple computers have. The plastic is really just for the slider cover guide for the lightning cable. LandingZone includes a 4.5 foot Lightning cable with the stand, which is a welcome accessory as many charging stands typically make you provide your own.
So what sets IONA apart from other charging docks? That answer is two-fold. First of all, the dock has an open design and you can use it with iPhones and iPads of varying models (includes iPhone® 5/5s, iPhone 6/6 Plus, and iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPad mini™, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPad mini 4, iPad Air® and iPad Air 2). I’ve charged several iOS devices on it including an iPhone 6, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad Air and have no issues with any of them.
The other extra special feature of this dock is that it rotates. IONA will rotate 120º to help provide multiple viewing angles. I’ve found this feature to be not only very unique, but also helpful. It’s really nice when you decide to use the iPad as a second screen for your Mac, or if you’re just multitasking between devices. That being said, IONA is a bit taller than the standard dock. It was designed that way so that it would be much closer to eye level with MacBooks and Thunderbolt monitors. It’s got a weighted base for security, but it would be nice if it were just a bit heavier for one-handed removal of devices.
One other really nice feature I appreciate is that IONA was designed to accommodate iOS devices – even when they are in a case. This is one of my biggest pet peeves – that charging docks can’t charge a device when it’s in a case. LandingZone took this into consideration and created spacers to better fit all iOS devices. There are some cases of course that aren’t compatible – the extremely large ones like the Otterbox Defender cases or battery cases. But, if you just keep a standard Apple case or a bumper style case on your phone, you should be able to use IONA with little problem.
IONA is a wonderful charging dock that doesn’t take up a lot of space on your desk and allows you to charge many devices with one dock.
