A great alternative case that is a friend to the environment.
I’ve never really been one to keep my phone in a case, but every once in a while, I pick one up. In order for a case to qualify as ‘special’ to me, it has to fulfill more than one feature for me. I also want to see the case be minimal in nature. I don’t like large, bulky cases, but I do want to make sure my phone is well-protected. So, when I found out about Incipio’s Organicore case, I thought I should try it out.

DETAILS
The Organicore for iPhone 12 Pro is a part of the eco-friendly Organicore collection, which features material made from plants. The case while made from plant materials is also designed to be ultra-protective thanks to its Impact Struts Technology. The case provides 8-foot drop protection and is 25% more protective than the previous Organicore cases. The case is 100% compostable which means that it is guaranteed to break down completely in a compostable environment. Incipio has also committed to planting a tree for every Organicore case sold. There are three color choices – charcoal, eucalyptus, and natural.
Features
- 8 Ft. Drop protection
- 100% Compostable plant-based protection
- Impact Struts protection tech reduces impact force
- Raised-edge bezel protects screen
- 5G compatible
- Lifetime guarantee

USER EXPERIENCE
The case comes in a minimalistic box that appears to be made entirely out of cardboard. There is an open cut-out on the front of the box that allows consumers to view and touch the case inside. There is quite a bit of information about the case on the box including its compostable nature. I really like this type of packaging for cases because it gives consumers the opportunity to truly experience the case before they purchase it.

I was somewhat surprised about how case-like the case actually felt. When I heard about the Organicore case, I was expecting the same feel that environment-friendly straws have – especially after checking out some of the colors that are available. I have the charcoal version, which, in my opinion, looks the most like a standard case. The other two colors are speckled and look sort of like linen paper. But the charcoal case looks like a dark gray case. It’s solid and has a very small Incipio logo on it. The inside of the case has the Organicore logo and tagline (from plant to case to earth. 100% compostable. Reducing landfill waste.) imprinted on it.

The case pops onto the phone (I have the iPhone 12 Pro) quite easily. I pressed the volume button side into the case first and then worked the phone into the case little by little. Once the case was on the phone, I noticed that there was a lip around the screen of the phone. These are included to provide drop protection for the screen of the phone. The case actually feels very good in the hands. It’s smooth and has a nice soft silicone feel to it. I haven’t done any official drop tests, but I did happen to drop the phone once or twice while it was in the case and the phone did not sustain any damage.

CONCLUSION
I like that environmentally-friendly alternatives are being made available for cases. There are so many cases being disposed of on a daily basis that it’s nice to know that this one is biodegradable. Since the technology exists, I hope that other case designers can take the lead from Incipio and create their own version of this case.
