I’ve been searching for the perfect desk chair for many years. After many different tests, with many different types of chairs, I have narrowed down the feature set I’m looking for to mesh covering, footrest, and built-in massager if possible. All of those features can be found in the Hbada X7 Smart Chair.

User Experience

Setup & First Impressions

Like most office chairs, the HBADA X7 comes in a very large box. The total weight of the chair is around 75 pounds so it is not lightweight by any means. There are several large pieces to the chair assembly including the back, seat, headrest, and, of course, the base. Since this is a ‘smart’ chair, there are a few extra steps to the assembly process than a standard office chair, but the most difficult part of the process is just lifting the parts onto each other because of the weight.

I started by assembling the base. With this chair, that involved attaching each of the spokes of the base to a center piece using bolts. Once they were attached, I was able to insert the screws into each arm of the base. Then, I placed the hydraulic lift into the center of the base. At this point, I was directed to attach the tilt adjustment lever. This was another thing that was different from other chair setups I’ve done. I would say that 80% of the chair assemblies I’ve done do not require the handles or levers to be attached. This one was already connected to the chair, but it needed to be screwed into the seat. I did find it a little odd that something like this would be halfway assembled.

The next step I completed was to attach the arms to the seat using the provided screws. Then you attach the seat to the back. The instructions direct you to attach the two main parts of the chair together on the floor and then lift it onto the base. I thought that might be a little too difficult because of the weight so I attached the seat to the base first. Then, I placed the back in place and attached its screws into the seat base.

Now, because this is a smart chair and there are massagers, heaters and ventilation built into the back, there are a couple of extra cables that have to be plugged in in order for those elements to be powered and controlled. One of those goes from the seat to the back. The other place you have to connect is the battery. Now, I want to note here that for some reason, the battery is shipped separately from the chair. When the chair first arrived, the battery was missing, but HBADA quickly sent one out.

One of the oddities of this chair is the power plug. It comes with a charger that has no holes in the end of the prongs. While this is technically not unsafe by modern standards, it was jarring to see. What was more strange was that an additional power outlet adapter was included. I identified it as a US standard conversion plug, which only seems to be sold on Ali Express. I’m still confused about why this was included, but since it allows you to connect to a 3-prong outlet, I have been using it. In addition to the power plug oddity, the connector that charges the chair is also strange.

The HBADA X7 uses a proprietary magnetic connector designed specifically for the chair. While the power delivery itself follows a common specification, the magnetic tip is customized, meaning it cannot be easily replaced with a typical off-the-shelf adapter. The connector is designed as a breakaway safety feature, so it disconnects easily if tension is applied, though this also means it doesn’t always feel as secure as a traditional plug. While I do appreciate that breakaway feature, I’m also slightly annoyed by this particular connector because it doesn’t seem to keep a solid connection at all. I’m constantly wondering if it’s actually attached. It does work, but it’s concerning to me that you can’t easily replace it without going through HBADA.

Comfort & Ergonomics

The Hbada X7 does a great job where it matters most for me, consistent back support. With most chairs, even premium ones like the Herman Miller I was using, I tend to fall into a slight slouch because the lumbar support never quite pushes into the right spot. The X7 changes that. Its lumbar system actively supports my lower back and keeps me in a better sitting position without needing constant adjustments, which helps reduce fatigue over longer periods of time.

As I mentioned, mesh is my material of choice when it comes to chairs. Other materials just get too hot for me throughout the day. The mesh that HBADA used has been very comfortable and sturdy. I’ve found it to be very breathable, even during extended use. So far, it hasn’t stretched out too much either.

I do appreciate how articulate the arms are, but I would have liked to see a locking option for them, too. It takes me a little while to get them adjusted just right and one little bump causes them to flip all over the place. That’s why a lock of some sort would be a fantastic add-on for this chair.

As much as I appreciate and enjoy the smart part of the X7, there is one issue I do have. When the automatic massager kicks in, the mechanism pushes into my lower back more aggressively than the standard lumbar support. At times, it feels like it’s pushing me farther forward than I want to be, which can throw off an otherwise comfortable position. I usually have to readjust when that happens, which can be a little frustrating.

From what I can tell, this happens because the massage system physically extends outward, and when combined with the chair’s posture-focused lumbar design, it can feel a bit over-corrective. It’s not a dealbreaker, and the feature can be nice when it’s set properly, but it’s something I’ve had to manage to keep the chair comfortable throughout the day.

Overall, the X7 provides excellent ergonomic support and keeps my posture in check, but the automatic massage feature takes a bit of dialing in to avoid disrupting that comfort. This is a chair that prioritizes active posture correction over passive comfort, which will work very well for some users but may take adjustment for others.

Conclusion

After years of searching for the ideal chair for my workspace, the HBADA X7 checks most of my boxes. Even though some of the smart functions have a learning curve to get just the right adjustment for your personal needs, it’s a great chair. I am slightly concerned about the longevity of the power adapter and being able to get it replaced when needed, but the chair itself carries a 5-year warranty, which adds some peace of mind. The HBADA X7 may not be the simplest or most traditional option, but for anyone looking for a more advanced seating experience, it’s a great chair worth considering.
