Microfibre Desk Mat
The Microfibre Desk Mat from Harber London has a premium look and feel. It's made with luxurious microfibre and comes in a fantastic neutral color. The retail price is higher than other XL desk mats - but I have not seen any XL desk mats made with microfibre. The performance of the desk mat is wonderful and this material is much preferred over other materials.

Desk mat provides an upgraded look and feel to workspaces.
I never saw myself as someone who needed a desk mat. I have spent most of my professional days without one and I just never saw the need for them. I am in the generation that grew up when computer mouses required a mouse pad in order to function properly and for the longest time, that is all I thought about desk mats. They were just giant mouse pads. Why would I need that?
As it turns out, a desk mat is much more than a giant mouse pad. It adds style, comfort, and protection to your desktop. A few months ago when I updated my office, I included a neoprene desk mat that had an RGB light strip around its border. It added a nice touch to my desk, but it really darkened the entire setup.
My desk has a white top and I like how clean it makes my entire workspace feel. The giant black desk mat was taking away from that feel. Fortunately for me, Harber London, one of my favorite luxury accessory companies, just released a new product – the Microfibre Minimalist Desk Mat.

DETAILS
The Microfibre Desk Mat is made from a soft, microfibre lining (German Microfibre – a synthetic fabric that resembles the look and feel of suede leather). It’s available in only one color – grey – and three different sizes – M (50 x 30cm | 19.6 x 11.8”), L (80 x 32cm | 31.49 x 12.59”), and XL (80 x 45cm | 31.49 x 17.71”). The desk mat is designed to be soft to the touch as well as dense so that it provides cushion and protection for your desk and its accessories.
The Microfibre Desk Mat is great for home offices, kitchen tables, or any other workspaces. It’s very subtle in its design and can blend nicely with any decor. At the time of publishing, this item is available for £49.00 ($64.06 USD).

USER EXPERIENCE
As I mentioned, I had been feeling as though the desk mat I had just wasn’t doing my workspace any favors style-wise. So I was thrilled to see the light grey desk mat released from Harber London. They are a family-run company based in London and they have a passion for making handmade leather goods. This desk mat is a slight departure from their standard leather goods, but it suits me much better than leather does.
I like the feel of fabric desk mats better than leather – and yes, I have tried them both – but the neoprene ones I’ve been using end up looking drab after a certain amount of time due to dirt build-up and general use. The Microfibre Desk Mat seems to be holding up much better than neoprene ones. I’ve also tried out felt desk mats, but they end up being scratchy against my skin and shedding all over the place. One of the reasons I like desk mats is that they help keep your desk surface clean. Felt desk mats end up creating more of a mess, in my opinion.
I ordered the XL desk mat, which ended up being not quite as long as my previous desk mat, but it was definitely taller. This is actually something I prefer. I did, of course, have to give up my RGB lights, but I’m ok with that since I really enjoy the look and feel of the Microfibre. The color is perfect. It’s enough of a contrast from my desk to look stylized, but light enough to still make the space feel bigger and cleaner than before.

The Microfibre Desk Mat provides excellent traction on your desk. I am not worried about my laptop or keyboard sliding around, but there is one little peripheral that I would like to have less traction on – my mouse. I have the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S as my wireless mouse of choice and as good as its dark charcoal color looks on the light grey desk mat, it doesn’t slide around effortlessly. It moves fine, but it’s stiffer than the smooth neoprene desk mat I was using. I think once I’m really used to the desk mat/mouse combination, it will be fine.

One other feature that I really like about this desk mat that most people wouldn’t think about. It flattens out quickly. There are plenty of desk mats that are shipped in a rolled-up form and when you lay it out, it takes hours for its edges to flatten out. The Microfibre Desk Mat laid flat within about 15 minutes.
CONCLUSION
The Microfibre Desk Mat is a beautiful addition to any desk setup. If you are looking to make your space feel cozy, modern, and clean, this is the desk mat for you. I know that I feel a lot more at ease when I’m working now. I think the desk mat has something to do with that. The price is on the high side, but I would consider this a premium accessory so I think it’s justified. There are many other types of desk mats, but I’ve never seen one made with microfibre. This is a great product and I hope that Harber London continues the development of microfibre products.
