Guitar Pro iOS app great for pros and beginners alike.
Growing up, I took piano lessons at the behest of my mother. While, I didn’t stick with it very long, I did learn the very valuable lesson of how to read music. Later in my teen years, I began playing in the school band as a percussionist. This became a passion for me throughout high school and even college. I’ve always enjoyed music and the study of music. So, I was very pleased to find Guitar Pro iOS app.
Guitar Pro is an app built to assist guitar players in their playing technique as well as their songwriting skills. The app comes pre-installed with 26 scores for the user to practice with. To start, you simply choose a score, enter it to full screen and then hit play. You can set the piece to loop and change the tempo as well. There is also a built in metronome to help the user keep time with the music. Guitar Pro also allows users to load files via Wi-Fi or web browser.
The practice screen includes the piece’s sheet music, a virtual fretboard and, as mentioned before, the ability to change the song’s tempo. By using the app’s NotePad, you can create your your own mono-track tablature ideas.
There is a feature called mySongBook, which is a library of music scores written by professional musicians. This is accessible through mysongbook.com. Each score purchased through mySongBook is also accessible on Guitar Pro 6, the desktop program.
Guitar Pro iOS app is a great tool for those musicians who are perhaps looking to expand their talents to the guitar. Using myself as an example, I have a basic knowledge of music and reading music, but don’t know how to play guitar. This app would make it very simple for me to teach myself basic technique and get used to the feel of a guitar. Would it turn me into Eddie Van Halen overnight? No, but it would provide me with an exceptional tool to learn how to play a C chord.
Guitar Pro iOS app is available on both iPhone and iPad. I tested the app on both devices and while I believe the iPhone app would be helpful to the aspiring songwriter needing to immediately getting notes onto a page, the iPad version is preferable due to the screen size.
The app retails for $7.99 and you get access to both versions.
