Holiday Gift Guide
Throughout 2014 we’ve seen some amazing products. Some are new to the market and some have recently been updated, but all of them have been great. There has been no better time for designers and developers than now with the technology innovations that are available. With that said, let’s get into our 2014 MacSources Holiday Gift Guide.
First on the list is a product I’m currently reviewing. Expect to see the full review later in December. I guess this is sort of a giveaway on how much I like it, but the August Lock is an amazing product that works with your existing deadbolt. August can be purchased via Amazon or at the Apple store.
Second on our list is the Move Wireless headphones by Jabra. These over the ears headphones have really taken me by surprise. With its wonderful sound, deep highs and lows, there are few headphones in the market that can compare. The Move Wireless is lightweight and constructed with stainless steal. They are comfortable and any music enthusiasts would love to have them.
Third on our list is of course the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Both phones are a huge upgrade from the previous iPhone versions and if it’s time to upgrade your cell phone you can’t go wrong with either model. The larger Retina screens makes viewing items on the device much easier. Everything from videos to news articles are clearer.
Forth on the list is the new iPad Air 2. Like the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the iPad Air 2 is a greatly improved device with more RAM, a better screen and Touch ID. Plus, you will find yourself in awe of its thinner design. Even the step from an original iPad Air was a noticeable power boost. If you are looking to upgrade your tablet, the iPad Air 2 is a great choice.
Fifth on the list is for all the digital hoarders like myself – the Drobo 5N. We have been fans of the products from Data Robotics for some time and the Drobo 5N has been amazing. Allowing 3Tb per drive slot and an SSD to remember the most used files for quicker access the Drobo 5N will help fill the void of lack of space.
Sixth on our list is Dropcam. I’m a big advocator for home automation and feel that we are living in the best time for this market. Dropcam are cameras that give you HD video and can be viewed securely from anywhere around the world as long as you’re connected to the internet.
Seventh on our list is one of my favorite home automation gadgets – the Hue from Phillips. I’ve almost switched all of our lights here at home to the Philips Hue. It can be a bit pricy up front, but the savings over time from using LED over older bulbs will be worth it. Plus, the LED bulbs will outlast traditional bulbs. And, they can be controlled via your smart phone. You can use any color you want with them. The Philips Hue also have what they call the Bloom and Light Strips to help with all your lighting needs.
Eighth on the list is the Nest thermostat. Yes, it’s another home automation item. With the Nest you can control your heat and air from anywhere as long as you have Internet access. Want the house to be warm before you get home? Open the Nest app and set the desired temperature. Then, drive home to a nice and toasty house.
Ninth on the list is for all you video gamers. If you are some of the few have not upgraded to the Xbox One, it’s time. With the price drop for the holidays this is the best time to grab one. I’m not a Microsoft fan at all, but I will say when it comes to the gaming consoles I prefer the Xbox to all others. The Xbox One works with your cable box, too. Plus, if you have the Kinect you can just say things like, “Xbox mute,” or “Watch USA,” and the Xbox will obey your commands. Xbox One also has a Blueray drive so you can watch the collection of Blueray movies that you get as gifts this Christmas.
And, finally tenth on our Holiday gift guide is the Gravitas from Henge Docks. This wonderful dock for your iPhone and iPad allows you to charge your devices in style. With great thought put into how to make this the ultimate dock, the team at Henge Docks made interchangeable inserts so you never have to upgrade your Dock when buying a new iPhone or iPad.
