Get Backup for Mac gives you a user-friendly, intuitive way to create backups.
I’m embarrassed to say that I’m horrible about backing up my files. I’ve been caught more then once with my figurative pants down and lost all data on a hard drive because I procrastinated too long on doing a backup. Part of my issue with creating a back up is that I’m concerned that I’m either not doing it right or that I am backing up something I shouldn’t. As a result, I end up pulling files at random onto a backup drive. Fortunately, I’ve just recently been introduced to the wonderful Mac app, Get Backup by BeLight Software.
Get Backup, which is more than just a clever name, is a first-class archiving app specially designed for Mac computers. With Get Backup you can quickly and efficiently create a bootable backup, sync files in multiple locations and simply backup your most important information with just a few clicks. The designers at BeLight have made Get Backup a very intuitive app with a smooth and stylish interface. As someone who is technologically savvy, but still a beginner when it comes to archiving, I found Get Backup very easy to understand.
When you open the app, you are met with the browser window that gives you three backup choices – Backup, Clone, and Synchronize. If you have the pro version you also have the option of incremental backups. As I mentioned, I consider myself an archiving novice and I’m grateful for the fact that BeLight put in a template for the backups feature. Get Backup users can take advantage of using these templates to backup the most popular files types including Documents, iTunes and iPhoto. This was something that I was very happy to find because it can be difficult to track down those libraries if you don’t know what you are looking for. Get Backup has made this process very easy.
Some additional features of Get Backup include –
- Folder Syncronization
- Compressed Archives
- Bootable Backups
- Automated Backup and Sync
- Encrypted Backups
- Backup to External or Network Volumes
- Restore to any Computer
Another one of the archiving feature of Get Backup is creating a bootable clone of your hard drive. The nice part about this feature is that even though you are creating a ‘clone’ of your hard drive, you can still select which folders/files go into that clone. This is something that can be very useful to every type of user. As an example, let’s say the motherboard on your computer gets fried. This is the equivalent of totaling your car in most cases. So, you would be starting from scratch on a brand new computer. A bootable backup of your hard drive would allow you to have your old computer back in a new case.
Some Apple users may wonder why they need another backup solution when they have Time Machine. Time Machine has proven to be a user-friendly utility for safety backups, but it does not include all of the functionality that Get Backup does. Time Machine does not have an option for creating bootable backups or compressing archives. If you want my advice, I’d recommend using both because you can never be too careful.
