User Experience
The EZquest USB-C Multimedia 8-in-1 Hub comes in a simple retail package. The carton has a front cover that features a nice image of the product along with its most distinguished features called out. Users have the option of lifting the cover to reveal a transparent window to see the actual product inside the box. The adapter comes with a simple quick start guide that includes spec information and resolution settings for Mac or Windows machines.
I’ve used a lot of different portable hubs like this one but the EZquest hub stands out to me because of its logical port layout. Even though this is designed as a portable dock, it could be used as a stationary one since all the display ports are on one side and the easy access ports (USB-A, SD, and Micro SD card readers) are on the other. In my opinion, I could see mounting the adapter with the card reader side facing the user so they could easily connect and disconnect from those valuable ports.

I also really like the cable that was chosen for pairing with this hub. It’s extended and measures approximately 11.25 inches from the base of the cable to the end of the USB-C connector. The cable is braided, which provides added durability that many non-braided cables have and because it’s longer, it can be used in more scenarios than shorted cable extensions can be.
When I first connected the hub to my M1 MacBook Air (2020) I got the following dialogue box: “Do you want to connect Generic USB3.2 Hub to this Mac?” Since I was well aware of the device connection, I granted access to it, but you should always be cautious of devices you are unfamiliar with.
When it came to testing, I ran the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. I used a USB flash drive, an SD card, and Micro SD card (specs included below) to test the data transfer speeds. I was able to verify the power delivery specs using the System Info on my MacBook Air and the HDMI connection to an external monitor worked well.
Flash Drive and Cards I Used:
- SanDisk 128GB iXpand Flash Drive Go
- SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO UHS-I SDXC Memory Card
- SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO® microSD UHS-I Card

One of the first things I noticed when I inserted the different media into the hub was that the USB-A flash drive was hard to press into the port. I actually felt as though I was forcing it into place. The other thing I noticed was that the SD and microSD cards did not click into place like they do in some card readers. They just slid into place.
I ran the Blackmagic test with no issues. It was a fairly slow testing process but I found it to be successful. The results are listed below. Even though the hub can transfer up to 5 GB/s the transfer speed will be dependent on the media’s capabilities, too.
Blackmagic Disk Speed Test – Results
Media | Write | Read |
---|---|---|
SanDisk 128GB iXpand Flash Drive Go | 33.3 MB/s | 87.5 MB/s |
SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO UHS-I SDXC Memory Card | 56.0 MB/s | 73.6 MB/s |
SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO® microSD UHS-I Card | 75.9 MB/s | 87.3 MB/s |
