A very handy little accessory for smartphone users.
I’m not sure how it happened, but over the years, we’ve amassed a large amount of smartphone tripods. While they come in handy when you are shooting video, I’ve never really liked to use them on a regular basis. They seem to take up too much space on my desktop and they just seem excessive for regular use. This was my opinion before I had the chance to try out the DeskGrip Smartphone Tripod by Magnus.
This mini smartphone tripod is a wonderful desk and travel companion. It has a standard spring-loaded smartphone cradle and will fit devices 2.2 to 3.5 inches. The DeskGrip has a 360º swivel and tilt head and it will fold up to 5.8 inches. The tripod only weighs 2.9 ounces and it has anti-slip feet to reduce movement while it’s on a stationary surface. The tripod is designed to hold smartphones and point-and-shoot cameras. The smartphone grip is detachable, which makes it possible to attach any camera that uses a 1/4-20 screw mount.
- Colors: Blue, Yellow, Orange, Gray
- Cradle Width: 2.2 to 3.5 in. (5.6 to 8.9 cm)
- Standing Height: 3.75 in. (9.5 cm)
- Folded Length: 5.8 in. (14.7 cm)
- Camera Mount: 1/4-20
- Weight: 2.9 oz. (81.7 g)
The DeskGrip has a nice, but simple retail box. It has a transparent window, which makes it possible for customers to be able to see the product inside the box. The side of the box has several photos that show possible uses for the tripod. Those options include horizontal viewing, swivel and tilt, vertical viewing, and handheld. The back of the box outlines the main features of the tripod and includes the specs.
I have to admit that since this tripod is priced less than $20 (USD), I was a little apprehensive about how well it would be built. From the moment I removed it from its box, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very lightweight and if it were taller, I don’t think it would hold a smartphone very well. But, since it’s designed to have a center of gravity close to a surface (i.e. tabletop, desk, etc.), it works well for smartphones and small point-and-shoot cameras.
I have quickly become a fan of this tiny tripod. It’s just perfect to fold up and throw into my laptop bag and it makes it really easy to monitor activities using my phone. And, because of its compact nature, it’s ideal for any photography I want to do with my iPhone. I use Pandora a lot when I’m working to stream music and the DeskGrip is the perfect companion for that activity. I’m very excited to have the tripod as a new option to mount my iPhone while I work.
I think this is the perfect option for anyone who travels or has a daily commute since it’s so lightweight and compact. It’s very easy to just slip into a pocket. I love having this as an easy to use stand for my iPhone no matter what the use will end up being.
