Derp provides a new way of social networking – with sounds!
Everyday we communicate. Whether through voice, text or visuals, we send messages to other people. There are dozens perhaps even hundreds of app in the marketplace that seek to enhance our human experience by the way we talk to one another. Imagine your first day of school. Do you remember the first person you talked to? Or what was said? I don’t remember much about those first social moments outside of my family, but I do remember a young boy my age presenting me with a scratch ’n sniff sticker as a gesture of friendship. This was my first social networking and it was done without any words or sounds. It was just a simple smile. I’d like to introduce you to a new app (released in August) that helps us to make small gestures towards our friends and communicate with them in a whole new way.
Derp is an iPhone app that allows you to send simple, unique sounds to friends who have the app as a way of enhancing your mobile social networking experience. Derp has sounds for every situation and using the app is almost like learning to talk again for the first time. As a user, you can instantly connect with your Facebook friends who are also using the app.
So, how does it work? When you first open the app you are asked to login with your Facebook account. When you connect, friends who are using the app appear in your contact list. Then, all you have to do is to tap on a friend and select a sound to send to them. There are dozens and dozens of sounds available – everything from an elephant trumpet to a 56k dial-up modem. Once you make your selection, you preview the sound and then tap send. The sound is sent to your friend and as long as their sound is turned up on their phone, it is pushed out to them and plays – even from the lock screen.
Derp gives us a new way to communicate with our friends. It’s free to download and is available in the App Store. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It’s a fun app that doesn’t require many resources of your phone and is very easy to use. I’ve not had any problems or glitches with it. If you are looking for a fun app to use with your friends and create a new way of social networking, try Derp.
