The Cosmonaut is the crayon for your iPad.
Imagine you could use a crayon again as an adult and no one would thing oddly of you. Well, thanks to Studio Neat, you can! Say, “Hello,” to Cosmonaut – a capacitive stylus for touch screens. The Cosmonaut is a perfectly balanced, sturdy stylus built specifically for use with an iPad. “What your iPad has been missing,” is the tagline that Studio Neat is using on their website and they might just be right. The Cosmonaut was designed out of the desire of Studio Neat developers to have a ‘really great stylus for iPads – one that feels just right.’ And the Cosmonaut fits that bill.
For starters, Cosmonaut is designed to feel like a dry-erase marker. Think about it. When you write with a dry erase marker don’t you feel secure and the marker feels perfectly balanced in your hand? Studio Neat considered that writing on an iPad feels nothing like writing on paper. So, why should a stylus be like a pen? They ultimately matched the iPad surface with a dry erase marker-like stylus — one that is fast and simple. Because of its wide grip, the Cosmonaut is very easy to handle and it does feel more balanced and is easier to write with on an iPad or even iPhone surface.
Perhaps one of the most remarkable things about the Cosmonaut is that it’s built in America. It can be hard to find superior technology that is made completely in the U.S., but Studio Neat really strives to make its products within the shores of the United States. Cosmonaut has a replaceable tip that includes an air bubble at the end. Fortunately, the tip did not wear out during testing, but I did attempt to remove the tip to see how easy that might be for someone who needs to do so. You’ll be happy to hear that the tip is solidly affixed to the end of the Cosmonaut. I would hope that there are detailed instructions that come along with the replacement tip that allow you to safely remove and replace the tip without damaging the remainder of the product.
Speaking of the body…the Cosmonaut sports a solid alumninum core, which is very, very tough. You don’t have to worry about tossing this stylus into a laptop bag. It will come out in one piece. Cosmonaut comes equipped with a rubberized exterior for comfort grip. This is another feature that I truly appreciate. Growing up, I constantly had to apply soft grips to pencils and pens because I would grip them too hard. I don’t have to worry about that with Cosmonaut because of its soft-feel body. It’s also waterproof.
So how does it write? In my testing, I found that Cosmonaut works far better on the larger screen of an iPad than an iPhone. I also found that I had to apply a bit more pressure when writing than some other styluses I’ve used, but I thought that the product and comfort of writing with Cosmonaut was far better than any other stylus I’ve used. I didn’t have any problems using it for any length of time.
Cosmonaut only weights 1.4 ounces and is available in a lovely black color. Cosmonaut brings comfort to writing with a stylus. It’s great for doodling, sketching or just handwriting. It’s built to last and at $25 is comparable to other styluses in the market.
