CHOETECH proves you do not have to break the bank to enjoy up to 10W wireless power.

After smartphone cases, my favorite accessories have to be charging/cables.  Now that most modern phones support wireless charging in some manner, we have the option to choose between wireless and wired power.  It is true that iPhone 8/8S/X/XS MAX/XR support wireless charging, but they still do not support the full power of many of their Android brethren.  With a variety of options available, you get to choose the look, the style and the feel of the charger.  You do not have to settle for mediocre, nor do you have to settle for a single brand.  Pick the best color, the best style, the best features and the one that best suites your needs.  It is your desk or your nightstand after all.  At the risk of sounding cliche, sometimes the lesser traveled road is better, and we typically like to root for an underdog.  If you have not heard of CHOETECH, let me introduce you to their wireless charger.

CHOETECH Fast Wireless Stand
The CHOETECH Fast Wireless Charging Stand arrived in a 5 3/8 inches long by 3 1/8 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches thick retail box.  Upon initial impression, the packaging felt a little generic and vague.  The white cardboard cover felt flat and I could see the linear cardboard streaks through the white coloration.  If you look towards your upper left, you will find a blue “CHOETECH POWER TO THE BEST” company name and “FAST WIRELESS CHARGING STAND” just below the company name.  Similar to the overall appearance, the product name was not unique.  If you look toward your right, you will find a 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide black-colored, ink-outline drawing of a charging stand.  Utilizing the same blue color, CHOETECH provided the model number just to the right of the ink-drawing.  The top and bottom panels mirrored the cover, except they did not display the ink outline nor model number.  The left and right panels provided a much-needed splash of blue color, utilizing the same blue coloration as the company name on the cover, top and bottom panels.  The model number was printed listed in a blue rectangle and a there was a larger blue 1 3/8 inches wide by 1 5/8 inches tall rectangle as well.  The blue rectangles added a look-at-me marking to an otherwise unremarkable exterior.

The bottom panel provided both a paragraph and icons detailing the 30-day (return for any reason) warranty, 18-month limited warranty and lifetime technical support. You can access their website utilizing the QR code (www.choetech.com) or send them an email to support@choetech.com.  Within the box, I found the 2 7/8 inches wide by 4 5/8 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide stand style wireless charger.  The main color was a matte black and had a golden colored “CHOETECH” centered about an inch from the top.  Along the bottom of the front panel, there was a 2 1/2 inches wide by 1/2 inches thick phone shelf.  The inner surface of the shelf was supposed to have a rubberized anti-slip surface, but this had fallen off in shipping.  The backside of the strip was coated with glue and tactilely felt quite sticky.  I pressed the rubberized side firmly into the shelf groove and the adhesive affixed firmly to the plastic.  The base of the charger was labeled with the title “Fast Wireless Charging Stand,” the T524-S model number, 5V/2A or 9V/1.8A input and up to 10W max output.  Similar to the “CHOETECH” name listed on the front of the charger, the gold coloration proved to be an intelligent choice.  The gold colored font starkly contrasted the black base color but did so in a subtle manner.

Additionally, within the box, you will find a panda bear comment card/bookmark and an eight-panel multi-lingual instruction manual.  The comment card provided another QR code link, as well as listed the support@choetech.com support email.  To test the device, I plugged a DROK USB-C LCD Multimeter into an AUKEY AMP USB-C Wall Charger with PD 3.0, the USB-A end of the DROK multimeter.  I then plugged the USB-micro end of the 49 inches long cable into the back of the charger.  A pleasing green LED illuminated along the front/base of the charger.  The DROK multimeter read 4.99-5.06V/1.12-1.23A.  Even though the charger was cable of 10W wireless charging, the maximum wireless charge for an Apple phone is limited to 7.5W.   This was not a negative for the device, rather a limitation of the smartphone technology in the Apple devices compared to many of the Android phones.  Starting at 8:53 in the am, I vertically placed my iPhone XS Max, with SKECH STARK case, onto the charger.  Starting with 27% power, I noted a 3% power increase over 7 minutes.  By 9:00 AM my phone was at 31%, by 9:14 it was at 37%, by 9:23 it was at 43% and by 9:48 it was at 51%.  The rate of charging remained roughly 1% for every 2 minutes, throughout the review.  If you are looking for rapid charging of an iPhone, you will need to invest in the Apple 29W, 61W, or 87W power bricks and a USB-C to Lightning cable.  To save some money, you can purchase a USB-C PD capable device from ANKER or AUKEY as well.

CHOETECH WIRELESS Charging Vertical
With my iPhone XS Max placed upon the charger, most of the charger was hidden behind the phone.  To further test the device, I rotated my phone into landscape mode and it continued to charge.  The CHOETECH website lists the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, S7/S7 Edge/S6 Edge+/Note 5 for fast charging and other devices at a standard charge. To utilize the fast charge feature, you will need a QC 2.0 or newer charging cube.  I liked the subtle green LED along the base, but would have preferred a red color instead.  LEDs with blue spectrum light can decrease melatonin and potentially cause sleep issues for some people.  The charger shape is perfect for both vertical and landscape use and the device had a relatively compact base footprint.  I do not have one of the listed fast charging devices to test the capability.  I can attest to the fact that the device charges at a rate of up to 7.5W based on my multimeter testing.

CHOETECH LANDSCAPE WIRELESS
In the case of wireless chargers similar to the CHOETECH device, the trade-off for increased speed is convenience.  It is very convenient to simply place your phone upon the charger.  Once the wireless charger is plugged in, you do not need to worry about finding the right cable or having to plug/unplug your phone.  There will be some limitation to the ability to charge based on your case and mounting choices.  In this instance, the CHOETECH device lived up to my expectations for the rate of charge and appearance.  I wish that there was more thought placed into the bland packaging as it lacks flair and that shock-and-awe needed in our modern marketplace.  I have used the device over the last two weeks and enjoyed a fully charged iPhone XS Max by morning.  If I had one critique it would relate more to the cardboard display and not the device.  If you are looking for an inexpensive, reliable wireless charger for your shiny new smartphone, definitely consider the CHOETECH FAST WIRELESS charger.  It may not be the fastest option on the market but it has many of the features of pricier devices.
