A Lightweight, High-Quality Dual Screen Extender with Room for Improvement
I’ve been working remotely for almost 5 years now. My work laptop is my lifeline to my colleagues and clients. Most of the time, I’m in my home office and connected to an external monitor and keyboard. Because of that, I feel like I have more than enough screen real estate to work with, but when I’m on-the-go, my laptop’s screen just doesn’t feel sufficient enough. I’ve used portable displays before, but it always feels like a disconnect. This is what led me to the Cevaton P5 Dual Laptop Screen Extender.

User Experience
Unboxing the screen extender was simple. The screen does have a protective film on it and all the cables are neatly wrapped up in the box. I really appreciate that the essential cables were included and that the USB-C cable had a right-angle end on it. I connected the screen extender to my 16-inch 2023 MacBook Pro (M2 Max) with USB-C only and never had any connection problems with it. My MBP automatically detected it the screen and I was able to seamlessly move windows over to the screen extender without needing to do any other modifications with software.
The screen image was very clean and I thought it was sufficiently bright. Even though it’s only 1080P, text is easy to read and visuals are crisp. While 4K might be more beneficial for certain circumstances, for work purposes, I feel as though 1080P is ideal because it’s also not drawing a lot of power. The screen worked well being powered by the laptop. I had it plugged in for several hours and the MBP still had power to it.

Now, while the screen itself worked well, I was not happy with how it attaches to the laptop. The concept was good because it didn’t require me to stick anything adhesive to my laptop, but it was never a tight enough fit. The screen extender kept sliding and I had to continuously adjust it while I was using it. I had the kickstand on the mounting side and that still didn’t help. I would love to see a stronger bracket on this screen extender and it would be an ideal remote working companion.

Conclusion
The Cevaton P5 Dual Laptop Screen Extender offers a practical solution for remote workers, travelers, and multitaskers who need additional screen space. It delivers a crisp 1080p display, easy plug-and-play setup, and solid color accuracy while maintaining a lightweight, portable design. However, its mounting system leaves much to be desired, as it struggles to stay securely attached to the laptop. If you can work around the mounting issues, the P5 is a fantastic way to enhance productivity on the go.
