A unique protective, stylish iPhone case.
When the newest iPhones were released, I immediately started looking at cases. I wasn’t sure if I would be upgrading or not, but I wanted to see what new innovative designs were available for the newest iPhone styles. One company I looked at was Case-Mate. They have been designing fashion-forward cases for mobile technology since 2006 and they have recently developed some of their existing product lines into cases for the iPhone 8/8 Plus and the iPhone X. Case-Mate prides themselves on having an extensive collection of cases for any style and occasion.
The first case I decided to take a closer look at was from the Karat collection. This line of cases is designed as a 2-piece case for added protection. The case has an ultra slim profile and full shock-absorbing bumper. The exterior of the case is infused with anti-scratch technology and the Karat case meets MIL-STD-810G drop test standards. Now, what caught my eye was the unique gold flakes embedded inside the case, but when I started researching the features of the case, I was impressed by its protective coverage for the iPhone.
The unique flair of this case is the metallic rose gold leaf highlights inside the backing of the case. The Karat case was inspired by turquoise jewelry and Lucite handbags from the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to the colored case exterior and the gold flakes, the case also has metallic buttons to finish the look. The case has a lifetime warranty and will work with wireless charging. As I’ve been looking at cases, I’ve noticed that some don’t work too well with wireless charging so it was refreshing to hear that this case would.
The packaging of the Karat case is simple and clean. There is a clear Case-Mate brand logo at the top of the box with the name and color of the case indicated with a stripe across the front. There are some basic details of the case printed on the back of the box and the case rests inside. As I mentioned above, the case is in two parts — and interior bumper and exterior plastic shell. I’ve found that the easiest way to install the phone into the case is to remove the interior bumper and wrap it around your phone. Then, push the phone and the bumper into the shell. The case adds a little bit of weight, but it’s not overbearing. The case feels pretty good in the hands, but because the backing is smooth, it will slide in your hand a bit. The buttons are very responsive and there is easy access to the ports and speakers on the bottom of the phone.
The case for the 6/6s/7/8 is the same size. I do not have the iPhone 8, but I do have an iPhone 7 and I used it with the smaller version of the case. Because it’s made to fit all of those models, there is a cutout for a headphone jack for the iPhone 6 users. I was also able to take a look at the fit of the case on an iPhone X. I was surprised to find that that Karat case fit much closer than it did on the iPhone 7. With the iPhone 7, I was able to pull out the inner bumper in order to remove the phone from the case, but the iPhone X was a bit more of a chore. The bumper and shell were a very tight fit with the iPhone X.
I can recommend this case based on its stylish nature and protective properties. There are several colors available including Turquoise, Rose Gold, Gold, and Mother of Pearl. The Karat Case is available for the iPhone 6/6s, iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X.
