AudioCast turns any speaker into a wireless wonder.

Have you ever had a great sounding speaker that could only be used one way? Maybe you would love to play music off it via AirPlay, Pandora, or one of the other great services available now, but it’s a wired speaker. It’s too bad that amazing speaker doesn’t have an app or wifi built-in. This was a problem I’ve had a few times in the past, but it’s not something that comes up much anymore since most speakers come equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth, or both. For the times you have a device you would love to stream from, but can’t, there is AudioCast.

AudioCast is a small wireless AirPlay music receiver and DLNA adapter that gives you the ability to turn boring older speakers into awesome, modern tech. The AudioCast app is rock solid and gives you the ability to access your music via AirPlay even if you have no music on your device like me. I use iTunes Match and all my albums are stored in the cloud. I purposely delete them from my devices so that I can stream them and keep more open storage space on my iOS devices and Mac. AudioCast not only lets me view the music stored in iCloud, but it also lets me use other wonderful streaming services though its app like Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and Spotify. You can also use the AirPlay function natively through the iPhone. AudioCast becomes an AirPlay device and you can connect to it like you would any AirPlay compatible device.

So, how does it work? Well, it’s actually quite a simple process. You connect the device to your WiFi network and then connect it via auxiliary cable to the speaker you want to make wireless. There are two methods of connecting – the WPS button or connecting through your mobile device’s WiFi settings. I ended up using the latter method. I will have to say my first few attempts to get it connected to my WiFi were miserable. I believe my mistake was that I didn’t have it powered. The instructions don’t explain the installation process very well and it doesn’t say anywhere in the instructions that the AudioCast needs to be powered by USB when in use. Once I connected power, I found that using my phone’s settings menu was the easier method for me to connect to my home WiFi. Once it was, the connection was instantaneous between the speaker and the AudioCast device.

This device was well thought out. I’ve used other small products like this that were totally designed to be quickly pushed out. It’s sad when a company finds pushing a broken product out to make money is better than waiting to put out a great working product. Fortunately, AudioCast doesn’t seem to be one of those products. I’m definitely impressed with its ease of use and functionality.
