If April showers bring Mayflowers and Mayflowers bring Pilgrims, what does September bring? Apples! Even though Apple has moved into the iPhone 14 series, many people still utilize previous generations of iDevices. One of the neatest features introduced with the iPhone 12, and continued through to the newest iPhone 14, was the MagSafe technology. Initially designed for MacBooks to reduce damage from a pulled power cord, the magnetic charging iPhone technology created a market for magnetic attachment accessories. Beyond simple wireless charging tech, companies like atom studios realized the benefit of add-on features.
UNBOXING
The atom studios keep magnetic wallet arrived in a 3 3/4 inches wide by 3 15/ 16 inches tall by 5/8 inches thick hanging-style retail package. Upon initial impression, I appreciated the recycled cardboard packaging, the 1 1/4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches tall front cutout, and the vibrant information-packed stickers. The tan/green cover sticker provided information about the keep wallet, the “premium eco” carbon black cork materials, MagSafe Compatibility, and dual card storage.
The open cutout expanded the presentation beyond a simple flat image and allowed the user to actively touch the cork material. The larger rear panel expanded upon the product features mentioned above: 1. Sustainable, tactile, and durable, cork is perfect for storing your essentials. 2. Built-in magnets connect securely to your phone or MagSafe phone case. 3. Compatible with MagSafe iPhones, including iPhone 12 and 13 range. 4. Holds up to 2 cards in a slim profile. Lastly, the rear panel provided an ink-outline image of the case, information about the 2-year warranty, copyright information, a California P65 Warning, recycled packaging logo, and a UPC barcode.
I removed the tape at the side of the packaging, lifted the lid, and appreciated the “all things considered” slogan stamped into the surface. I returned to the cover and found the atom studios name stamped into the bottom left, and the atom logo stamped onto both side panels. I appreciated the attention to detail and the faux leather feel to the stamped recycled cardboard.
I slid the inner cardboard tray from the outer packaging and removed the 0.8-ounce, 3 3/4 inches tall by 2 9/16 inches wide by 1/4 inches thick keep wallet. I was impressed with the light weight, the black color, the hidden atom icon visible within the 1 1/4 inches tall by 3/4 inches wide rear cutout, and the stamped atom studios name on the cover. Despite the allure of the cork materiaI, I did not particularly appreciate that the surface appeared to have clear glue residue stuck to the surface.
TESTING
The wallet will allow you to keep/store up to 2 cards, including credit cards with raised numbers. The secure MagSafe attachment allowed the wallet to stick to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and to the outer surface of my Catalyst Active Defense Vibe Series Case when held upright, upside down, and when I shook the device. I placed the phone with my keep wallet into and out of my pocket a few times and did notice a few displacement events.
However, I was impressed with the amount of force required to remove it from the Catalyst case. Additionally, I did not experience any loss of cards from the wallet. I enjoyed the ability to add the keep wallet to my phone to carry my driver’s license and credit card when I went to the local gym. I was able to place my phone into my Nite-Ize case and found that I did not need anything more than my phone case. Honestly, the ability to leave my Slim wallet at home proved to be a rather convenient bonus.
Summary
If you are looking for a lightweight, inexpensive, add-on magnetic wallet for your iPhone 12/13/14, consider the keep magnetic wallet from atom studios. I appreciated the concept, product design, and the attention to resource management with their eco-friendly packaging/product. I liked the color, the cork feel, and the firm magnetic attachment but was less satisfied with the appearance of the clear glue residue.
