Apple has released an update for its latest operating system for Mac to fix a flaw to improve security. This update is recommended for all users and should be implemented as soon as possible. This update was released today, November 29, 2017. This security flaw was allowing users to enter ‘root’ as the username and bypass the need for a password when logging into a device. This software update is available through the Mac App Store.
Security Update 2017-001 features:
- Available for: macOS High Sierra 10.13.1
- Not impacted: macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and earlier
- Impact: An attacker may be able to bypass administrator authentication without supplying the administrator’s password
- Description: A logic error existed in the validation of credentials. This was addressed with improved credential validation.
