Screen Shot 2013-01-07 at 11.50.55 PMEven though travel season is through until Spring Break, I thought I would share my insights on this handy little helper called, Bellhop.

Bellhop is a travel app for Mac that gives users the ability to search for available hotels for selected destinations. I was intrigued by this app when I found it because it is exclusively for hotel reservations. Until now, I’ve used sites like Travelocity or Orbtiz for hotel searches. Those sites, while helpful, can be cumbersome if you are simply looking for an available hotel with a good rate. Those sites specialize in booking the whole trip and can make it difficult to search for hotels. Plus, there are additional ads to sift through when you visit a website. Bellhop is ad free and has a clean, easier understood interface.

Screen Shot 2013-01-07 at 11.51.07 PMWhen you boot up the app, you are met with a screen that asks for a destination, check in and out dates and number in your travel party. Once you input that information, you click ‘search’ and a map of your destination is pulled up with pins indicating where the available hotels are located. Users are also given the opportunity to filter the results by amenities, star rating or Trip Advisor rating and you can also modify your original search criteria. Even though the map view is the default when you search, users may view search results in a list form. With this type of app, I much prefer the map as the default because I will base hotel off of where it is located the majority of the time.

One of the nicest features of this app is that ability to not only book your reservations directly through the app, but also the organizer function which lays out all reservations you have created within the app. This would be extremely helpful for those in a professional field that requires a lot of travel.

The app also gives you the ability to share hotel selections with friends or colleagues.

If the basic functions of this app weren’t enough, it is also built to take advantage of all Mountain Lion has to offer – it supports full screen mode.

If you travel a lot – personally or professionally – I would purchase this app to assist with your planning and organization.
