Great option for car safety.
I’m a fan of the show COPS, and I like watching YouTube videos of police officers stopping drunk drivers or drug users. I like videos of unusual situations, like where a woman is still miraculously untouched after a hurricane destroys every other car in front of her. But would I ever think about putting a camcorder in MY car? I never have before.
I’ve seen videos of police brutality as well, but those are usually done with a cell phone and pointed at the driver or passenger side window. So I struggled to find a way that this item would help me in my day to day life.
So I called my sister. She recently had an accident where the other driver was at fault. He ran a red light. He told the police officer “Yes sir, I saw the red light, and I saw her, I just thought I could beat her through.” Because of this accident, my sister had to miss three days of work, had to have cortisone shots in her back, and has since lost her insurance coverage due to a misunderstanding over her address. I have to wonder if this little camera wouldn’t have given her some kind of proof of what happened to her, and would not in some way help her to press charges against the person that intentionally ran a red light!
The truth is, it would. While the U.S. currently has no incentives for drivers that sport a camcorder in their vehicle, it would still aid in displaying the malice and carelessness of other drivers on the road. Especially when you are an excellent, careful, defensive driver.
The Apeman Dash Cam is a vehicle digital HD dash camera. The package comes with two cameras, one for your front windshield and one for the back. The front camera is the larger, 1 1/2″ x 3″ device that has the power button, the record button and some others that can either toggle between the front camera and back camera recording. The back camera is a small stand alone little thing, that you simply make sure is pointing out towards the back of the car when you adhere it to your vehicle.
I had a lot more trouble installing the front camera because I couldn’t decide if the 3M adhesive should be on the glass or on the dash. Either way would be sufficient, but because of the range of motion of the camera (super wide 170-degree range), I decided to put it on the glass.
Another issue I ran into is that this camera records onto a Micro SD card. Because I am a mother of small children, those are not something that I normally have lying around, so I had to go out and purchase one to be able to operate the camera. It does not come with one.
So now that I have the cameras in place and the Micro SD card in place, and the power running to the camera, this thing is surprisingly easy to use. All I had to do was to turn on the car and it automatically turned itself on and started recording. It records its capturing at 3, 5, or 10-minute intervals, and when your microSD chip is full, it simply records over the first recording. It’s definitely a first in first out methodology. Which is fine. As long as every day is basically the same, with no accidents. I would definitely suggest, though, that if you do have an accident that you take out the SD chip and make sure you download it onto your computer, or laptop, or phone (if your phone has a Micro SD card reader).
These days, you can’t be too careful. And sadly, you can’t trust other people to be as careful as you are. You can almost expect them to be down-right ugly hearted. But with this device, you can protect and defend yourself from the harshness of other people. I know what I’m getting my sister this year for Christmas!

Hy Audrey, I just bought an Apemam C550 and found your article here. Do you still run the cam in your car? I like to know, how the video quality is at night. I suppose, the cam does not have night view? All example video e.g. on youtube are made at daylight. It would be nice to hear your experiences with the cam.
Best regards from Hamburg, Germany.
