A better, more convenient way to charge your iPhone

Have you ever been in a situation where you really need to charge your non-wireless iPhone but don’t have a Lightning cable with you? I can’t tell you how many times that’s happened to me and I prefer for it to never happen again. I tend to live by the credo “always be prepared” but I will inevitably catch myself out and about without a way to charge my iPhone 7. As it begins to age, I find it needs to be charged more often and so, I’ve dedicated myself to always keep a cable nearby. The trick is to have a reliable cable nearby. I was recently introduced a nice cord-wrapped cable by Aimus that has a unique feature — a right angle plug.

Aimus Right Angle Lightning Cables REVIEW

The Right Angle Lightning Cables from Aimus feature a 90-degree bent tip, which is considered better for gaming, but I actually like them for all purposes. The cables provide full speed charging and data sync capabilities. They are compatible with any Lightning capable device and iOS 8 and newer. The 90-degree angle is designed so that your charging port is better protected during active use (like gaming) and it also fits into tight spaces. The cable is covered with a braided nylon jacket for durability and to make sure the cable is tangle-free. The cable is designed to withstand more than 10,000 bends. The connector is gold-plated and features a built-in safety copper core with 2.1A intelligent charging. The 3-pack of 90-degree Lightning cables comes in two colors — red and black — and has three different lengths of cables — 0.4 FT, 4 FT, and 6 FT.

User Experience

I’m a bit of a cable nerd. It’s not that I like having a lot of cables draped everywhere — I like different types of cables. I’m sort of fascinated by them. When I learned about this special right angle Lightning cable from Aimus, I thought, “I must try this!” I love the 3-pack option because you have a super short cable for simple charging of your phone when you have a portable battery pack nearby and you have a 6-foot long cable for when you need to stretch to a wall outlet from your desk. I chose to get the red cables because I like to be able to spot them from a distance and the red is a very vibrant shade. It’s easily found in a maze of black cables.

The cables came wrapped together and packaged in a generic plastic bag. Each of the lengths was tied together with a simple white twist-tie and there was a small welcome guide that was included. The interesting thing about the guide is that it gave very little instruction. It simply says: Avoid extreme temperatures. Use original charger. Don’t expose to liquids. Don’t disassemble. There is an 18-month limited warranty included with the cable along with lifetime technical support as indicated in the guide. There is no power adapter included with the cables and upon further investigation, the “use original charger” line in the guide is in reference to your device’s charger. For example, I can use this Lightning cable to charge my iPhone 7 but should use the wall adapter that shipped with the iPhone.

I found that the Lightning cables charged my iPhone quite well. I did two different charging tests. The first was to plug the Aimus cable into an 18W power adapter. According to my USB Digital Tester, the iPhone 7 was receiving 4.82V/1.29A from the wall outlet. After about 5 minutes, it had gained 2% battery life. I also tried the cable out using a USB charger. The first port was rated at 5V/1A and I got a reading of 5.03V/1.4A. The other USB port was rated at 5V/2.4A and after 30 seconds of charging my iPad Pro, the reading was 5V/1.83A.

Aimus Right Angle Lightning Cables REVIEW

It can be really hard to find a reliable charging cable. The Aimus Right Angle Lightning cables have received my seal of approval. They are durable, affordable, and they look cool! The only downside to these cables is the generic packaging and instructions.
