8 Minute Workout great to start moving.
Experts say that 30-minutes a day, 3 times a week is a “good” workout to stay in shape. But, in this fast-paced world, many people do not have that kind of time to dedicate to a workout regimen. Luckily, there is the 8 Minute Workout for iOS.
Released on August 29th, 8 Minute Workout is a high intensity circuit training workout. It focuses on 12 exercises. Each exercise lasts for 30 seconds with a 10 second break in-between. This is enough time for about 12-17 repetitions. The app tracks your stats and will sync your workouts between your devices and Dropbox. There is even a workout reminder that you can set-up in the app. You set the day of the week and time you want to be reminded and the app will push a notification to you.
I will be the first to tell you that I am no workout expert, but I have struggled with weight issues and fitness problems most of my life. So, I have tried a lot of options out there and one thing I have learned definitively is that every body is different and what works for me, may not work for others. That being said, I can tell you that 8 Minute Workout is a great option if you are short on time and want to get moving. The exercises are basic enough that you can pick them easily with the the illustrations the app gives.
I would love to see a couple things in future updates. While the illustrations are clear about what the exercise should be, it would be great to have an option to read a written description of the exercise, too. Along with a written description, I’d love to see a modified option for the exercise. I feel like many people who would start using this app may need to work up to correct form. I know that when I tested the app and went through the workouts, there were several that I had to modify in order to complete. For example, I do not have enough upper body strength at this time to do a full push up. So, I did a modified position where I braced myself with my knees.
