One of the most important elements when surfing the Internet is maintaining security. Visiting your favorite websites, using social networks, hiring a tutor or an essay writer from paper writing services, in case you are a student, is an ordinary activity. You should not neglect such a fundamental element as online protection.

We join the promotion of Internet security, and we offer you ten practical cybersecurity tips so that your connection is always protected.

1. The URLs with ‘s’ and padlock

If you are going to make a purchase or economic transaction, the web address must begin with “https://”. This code certifies that it is a page that fulfills the established security norms. Another of the keys to check if the web you visit is safe can be found in the icon of a padlock that appears at the left end of the address bar of your navigator.

2. Check the security seal and the privacy policy

Look for the privacy policy at the bottom, scan the contact section and check the address, verify that the security seal is real using your antivirus and close the page as soon as you notice that windows have started to appear without your permission or that you have downloaded a file without expressly requesting it. These simple actions will help you to verify if the web you are visiting is safe.

3. The security verification in payments as a habit

When making online payments with your credit card, online stores usually use a payment gateway of the bank, which usually involves sending an SMS to your cell phone with a security code to confirm the purchase transaction. In other cases, it is possible to pay through an intermediary company, such as Paypal or other systems. In this case, the important thing is to check that this section belongs to the page of the related company and that it offers you all the guarantees To reinforce the security in online payments, one of the methods more and more used is the verification in two steps. It consists of using a second security code, which is usually sent via SMS and increases the security of our data and personal information.

4. Your devices, with antivirus and updated

Use an antivirus on each of them and, above all, perform a scan every week to detect any anomaly. This way, you prevent problems and keep your information safe. Do not forget to automatically select the option to update the antivirus always to offer the greatest possible effectiveness.

5. Be careful with public WiFi networks

If you are going to use a public WIFI network (accessed in cafes, hotels, or other premises), it is best to avoid online shopping and accessing services that require you to enter a password. Avoid any personal data because outsiders can collect it.

6. Know the sender

On many occasions, you will receive an e-mail requesting information, even saying that they will publicize some private information about you. You only have to read who is sending the message and search on the Internet to check if it has happened on previous occasions. The most advisable thing is always to throw these suspicious emails directly to the recycle garbage can.

7. Your online shopping on trusted sites

Events such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday show that we are increasingly buying on the Internet, but doing so safely depends on the fact that you do it through reliable platforms whenever you make an online purchase. Do your research on the net before making an online purchase, and you can make sure that the site is trustworthy. You can search on social networks and decide only when the comments are positive.

8. Share yes, but exclusively

Sometimes information is shared with friends or other people with whom you share studies or work, but you must be careful to avoid leaving the door open for access to such data by third parties. To avoid this, grant specific access to each person with whom you share information and create a password for each document to reinforce your security. If you have a profile on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social network, take a few minutes to review the privacy options to decide what is visible and not. Keep in mind that many of these options are configured by default and, in the case of minors, it is advisable to restrict them as much as possible.

9. Passwords, long and with special characters

Most people use passwords with few characters. It is best to use one with a minimum of eight characters, including the eñe (which does not exist on other keyboards and requires different combinations to write it) and various punctuation marks such as question marks or exclamation marks. Combining uppercase and lowercase letters, incorporating some numbers, make your password unbreakable. Some programs help you create a much stronger password by combining different elements.

10. Configure the security of your router

As with passwords, you should regularly change your router’s access data to prevent access by others. The guidelines for setting the password are the same as those you have read above. We hope that these tips will help you use the Internet safely and with pleasure and not get caught by scammers!
