We are very excited to announce that image utility, Photosweeper by Overmacs, just received a massive update. As of today, Feb 5, 2015, Photosweeper 2.0 is now available in the Mac App Store. It contains a lot of new unique features and improvements. Back in early 2014, we presented a review of Photosweeper that described its functionality and usefulness with finding duplicate images. With Photosweeper 2, you will find it to be faster, more flexible and precise than ever before.

Some of the new features include:

Pixel-perfect user interface, which looks gorgeous on Yosemite

  • User-friendly comparison settings to easily find duplicates, similar photos and series of shots
  • New View Results mode that allows you to compare and mark photos better with just a click
  • Auto-lock folders and rules
  • Integration with Finder and Dock
  • Even faster performance

Photosweeper 2 also boasts a robust performance update that include faster processing for huge collections (100,000 or more images). I personally loaded a library of almost 750 photos and it was done processing them in about 15 seconds. Check out this example of Photosweeper’s speed from Overmacs –

I was very impressed with the app’s ability to distinguish similar photos. The library I loaded is fairly new so, I knew that there were not many duplicates, but when I take photos of products, I take several shots that are similar. I was curious about how Photosweeper would handle files that were not exactly the same. I was very impressed with it’s ability to show me similar photos that could be eliminated, thus saving my precious hard drive space.

The interface is much improved and moves flawlessly along with Yosemite. Anyone who is used to working within iPhoto will be familiar with the interface and be able to work easily with Photosweeper.

Overall, I’m very happy with the update to Photosweeper. What was already a wonderful app is now more advanced and more user-friendly. For more information, visit overmacs.com/photosweeper.

Photosweeper is available in the Mac App Store for $9.99. The update is free for existing users.
